Finally the D-day is around the corner..something that we have been planning for almost three months now is due culmination, and the excitement is feverish.
Never in my dreams did I dream about riding through the Himalayas ( seriously the closest I dreamt around was a vacation in a five star hotel on the foothills of the great Himalayas) So this trip has come as a sudden surprise pit stop in the sojourn of my life.
We are eight people ( every one in the teamiswondering who the 8th one is.. stay tuned) who plan to have a rendezvous at the highest motorable road on our Enfields ( one Avenger) and it cant get any better than this.
It all started when one of us ( ride leader PD) ( P.S-this is how i would introduce each one of our team members) casually mentioned about the trip over a drink session on one evening. Next morning, none of us even remembered the discussion except him. He googled a little bit and planted the insane seed in our saner minds next day. The plan sounded exciting and yet it demanded a lot of preparation from our end. Knowing our commensurateness and skill we didnt pay attention to the detailing.
But as days passed by he became serious about this whole trip and then it was our moral responsibility to reciprocate the eagerness to divert from our daily rigmarole mundane life we had. by now we were 4 ( PD, Ravin, Vinu and me) of us who had agreed in principle that we would do this trip.
A rough draft was prepared and circulated amongst the guys who showed interest and lo a project plan was ready.
Vinod and Sujay, who also got a copy of the draft were suddenly super interested and joined the club.
This shooting stone had now gathered momentum, and we knew it would hit hard once it hits us. we started vehemently working on how deep our pockets need to be for such an excurtion, the rough budget estimated around INR 30K. this figure was somehwat acceptable to the current standards of living we follow in a booming country like India. however the world recession was still at the back of our minds. but we though rather help the economy by spending than saving and the project was kick started.
PD apprently ran through some of the blogs on the web and came up with the project name as "Getting Leh'd" which we felt was rather amusing. but what the heck we were doing something that was radical in our lives and it was a unanimous decision to set the ball rolling.
I need to log of now.. but stay tuned to know who the mysterious 8th member in our team is.
i will fill up all the details and bring up to today as in how and what preparation we did for such a trip.
but believe me 9 from what i understand), this herculian task of preparation is as interesting as the trip itself..
signing off for today..
